Afterward, take a moment to reflect on a time when communication felt challenging and you got caught up in over-sharing or just gave up on the conversation completely. Recall the discomfort and how it affected your relationship with that person. This exercise will help you understand the importance of embracing new strategies for in-person connections.

Your journey to becoming a hope-driven communicator starts here. Remember, every conversation is an opportunity to make a positive impact. As you walk into the next conversation you have, remind yourself that giving hope is better than giving advice, and stay curious. As you listen, focus on what is going well and the ways that person thriving. You may be in a habit of noticing the problems so this takes a focused effort. Keep in mind that the person you are talking to likely knows exactly what is going wrong and is hoping you will not remind them of that. When you are the person who points out what is going well you will stand out in their mind for all the right reasons. Now go into this day ready to listen longer and hear what is going well. Gather Thoughts Without Judgment

Part 1: Reflection (7 minutes)

  • Start your day with a brief reflection exercise.

  • Consider a recent situation where you felt overwhelmed or stuck in swirling thoughts or overthinking.

  • Write down your thoughts without judgment. Remain curious to better understand where you are in life today.

Part 2: Video Lesson (5 minutes)

  • Watch ​How to Lead with Hope starting at 7.34​. This portion explores the importance of gathering thoughts without judgment.

  • Learn how this skill can positively impact your communication and relationships.

  • Journal some ideas of how you can level up your listening and remain truly curious about others.

  • Engage in a practical activity where you'll have a conversation with a partner (or journal your thoughts).

  • Apply the technique of gathering thoughts without judgment during this interaction.

It's not about telling others what to do but about asking the right questions that unveil their strengths and ideas. How to Lead With Hope Day 2 Lesson

Now, it's your turn to ask these powerful, solution-focused questions. In your personal reflections today, consider these:

  • What do you hope will happen in your conversations?

  • If you were able to know for sure that the person would feel hope as a result of talking to you, what difference would it make for you?

  • Imagine the best version of yourself was present in your next tough conversation. What would that version of you do more (or less) of?

As you answer these questions, you'll begin to see the immense potential purposeful planning can make for you. Every conversation is an opportunity to empower and inspire. Take this knowledge with you into your daily interactions and let it be a beacon of hope for those you communicate with.
